Patient Six

It's been a busy week for yours truly. Now back to work at my part time retail job after having the month off due to a life (ha, I work even when I am not working) I had my favorite customer come in, an older lady whose face I know but name can't remember. She purchased Soap Opera Digest one day and I asked which soaps she watches while checking her out. Turns out she used to watch All My Children and One Life to Live, like me. And she watches General Hospital, like me.

She is so stinking adorable. Then again, I love older people and think all of them are adorable. I checked her out on Saturday afternoon, and I was excited to see her.

I was excited to see her just as I was excited to see Steve Burton back on GH. Burton played Jason Quartermaine/Jason Morgan since 1991, most notably leaving the role in 2012, after his character was shot and thrown into the river. Burton played the role of Dylan on Young and the Restless, and in 2014, Billy Miller stepped into the role of Jason Morgan. I wasn't a GH viewer during the SB years, and really like Miller in the role.

Others, however, beg to differ. I started watching General Hospital in 2011, following the cancellation of One Life To Live and three characters made the crossover onto GH. I'm familiar with SB as Jason, having watched the show for nearly two years prior to his departure and clips on YouTube.

SB is back on GH as Patient Six, drugged and held captive in a Russian hospital with no idea who he is. He feigned being drugged, escaped, hid in a church, and is now on a boat headed for Port Charles.

Only he doesn't know who he is, and neither do we. To some, he is Jason Morgan, a prep school standout and golden boy heir of the Quartermaine fortune. In 1995, Jason's life changed when he was seriously injured in a car accident caused by his brother AJ who was drunk behind the wheel. Jason suffered brain damage and didn't remember anyone in his family or his former life.

Sounds like a soap opera. That's because it is one. I'm curious to know what is going to happen.

I like Miller as Jason. He has grown on me and I feel like he brings a different side of Jason. He's combination of pre and post accident Jason, whereas Burton as Jason is the Stone Cold version. Each person has their own identity of the character and makes it their own. It's like the cover of "Hello" sung by Celine Dion. People were harsh regarding this version, yet Celine, in her late forties with her vocal range and French accent, made the song her own, just as Metallica did with their remake of Bob Seger's Turn The Page. James Hetfield's vocals and Metallica's hard sound make the song it's own, compared to Seger's accoustic version in the early seventies.

Patient Six, we are curious as to who you are: Jason's long lost twin Drew? The real Jason? Either way, we are looking forward to finding out. I can't wait to see my customer again to chat about this storyline.

Steve, welcome home. We missed you.
