Year End Reflection and the New Year

Oh gosh I need to start blogging more...

January: New year started off great, but soured in a sense. Had to deal with a catty, gossipy coworker with a big mouth and lazy attitude. Job was stressful (working with children isn't easy) and had to deal with an issue that I didn't get any support. Had knee injury-fell on ice on my way to work listening to DMX "How's It Goin Down". No pun intended. Made every effort to get to the gym which worked until said injury...

February: Said co-worker had to be put in her place. It was the right thing to do, given how she talked to people. The stress level started but I didn't realize it. Knee was getting better, but still painful to move in certain directions and suddenly.

March: Work paid for a fantastic class that I had been wanting to take for a few years. My Tuesdays were long having worked and gone to the class, yet it was worth it in the end, because I learned so much that was so useful.

April: Root canal on the day of a snow storm.  By the end of the week, the snow was melted. I still don't know what was going on with Mother Nature. So much disorganization at work that I started to get more stressed.

May: The weather started warming up and I started getting out my funk. At least I thought I did. Work was becoming more and more stressful, that I started looking for other jobs. I even blogged about an experience that I had with a family and learned a valuable lesson about blogging.

June: Hello summer! So nice to see you again.

July: Spent a fun weekend at my cousin's with my cousin's sister-in-law. The eerie thing was that my cousins realized I wasn't myself that weekend I was there, and I insisted everything was fine. It was far from fine. I realized so stressed out at work that I didn't even know I was stressed and it showed in my appearance. Having had enough drama and gossip, I walked out of the job and didn't look back. For the last part of July, I deliberated on what I wanted to do with the rest of my life (hello "semi-retirement"). I enjoyed being home, yet it was weird not going to work. I was offered a job at one of my favorite stores and declined due to the low pay and hours (if I was under 25 with no bills I would've taken it) and offered a fantastic part time job with better pay and flexible scheduling and dress code.

August: There is a saying " 'you can go home again' ". I did just that, returning to a previous employer. And it was like I never left: I did more work there in a week than I did in six months at my previous employer. I was less stressed and I could breathe again, drama free.

September: My Chicago Bears started the season opened against the Packers in Green Bay and lost. (I still say that was an undeserved victory for GB) I also talked to UW-Madison SOHE about enrolling for my BS in Human Development-Family Studies, which I am fifteen classes away without looking at my transcripts. All those courses in college paid off with no direction.

October: Madonna celebrated her 60th in August, so I went as my favorite Madonna poster: white tee, black suspenders, and a lollipop. Enjoyed a fun but cold day at the pumpkin patch with my cousin and her family, plus kettle corn and the Halloween movie which tied into the first movie (1978) perfectly.

November: Spent Thanksgiving with my best friend and her family and had a blast. Protested "Black Friday" shopping in general because it goes against my beliefs and my childhood as a whole. Ten minutes to find a parking spot at Best Buy...no thanks.

December: Started out the month in question about some things work related, and had a meeting with my boss that made me feel better. I learned it wasn't what was used or how it was used, but that something was done, compared to my old job. I saw someone in a different light, and literally changed my relationship with that person. Spent the holidays with family sick and getting back to reality. (Can we have more four day weekends?)

As this year closes out, I am grateful for everything I got this past year and look forward to 2019!
